If everyone opposes slavery, why has the Trafficking Victims Protection Act died?

I was lucky enough to cover the President’s speech at the Clinton Global Initiative in September 2012. In the thick of a hard-fought campaign, with Mitt Romney having spoken to the same crowd earlier that day, the President gave a decidedly apolitical speech regarding the plight of the trafficked woman/girl/sex worker and the human rights atrocities taking place all over the world. It’s disheartening to hear about the TVPA being quashed and one hopes another similar bill will take it’s place or there will be renewed support for this one. As Hilary Clinton leaves the State department, it is a concern whether issues directly affecting women and girls will once again be put on the back burner….
